Overview

Far Cry 5 - Post Launch Trailer

Hours of Darkness, the first of three planned DLC expansions for Far Cry 5, will be out on June 5. The expansion will move the game from Hope County to the sweltering jungles of the Vietnam War, where local boy Wendell "Red" Redler will embark upon a mission to rescued his captured comrades. The expansion will add new weapons to the game, including the M16 rifle, the SVD sniper rifle, and the M60 machine gun, all of which will also be usable in the main campaign. You'll also have the ability to call in "bombing airstrikes," which will presumably deliver more bang-for-the-buck than Hurk's mom's helicopter, and a new Survival Instinct feature that grants up to four temporary perks for accumulating stealth kills.

Reception

Hours of Darkness is a great looking DLC. It includes all the tropes of Vietnam. Agent Orange, POWs, dire onslaught on FOB, dire defence of FOB. It mainly focuses on traverse though, not on action packed gameplay as it should.

A real eye-opening experience, for someone not well versed in the Vietnam War outside of Forrest Gump, it's a welcome change to the main game, and that's coming from someone who really enjoyed the main game! If you're looking to creep around a jungle blowing things up and snapping necks, then come to Vietnam. If you weren't a fan of the main game, this...

Hours of Darkness is a solid DLC entry for an already great title. It certainly presents a diverse style of stealth oriented gameplay, alongside a different setting to the main story. Seeing the background context of a previously acknowledged Far Cry 5 NPC is also a neat bonus. However, there are issues with the lack of content and having just one main...

This first DLC for Far Cry 5 never really delivers. It is a short and very generic experience that forgets that Far Cry is able to please us and make us forget some flaws by counting not only on its setting but also on its story and characters. And nothing that could help us feel involved is here. It's just a short and uninspired DLC with some forgettable...

Far Cry 5: Hours of Darkness lacks a story, unique missions, or really much point. After completing the same generic side quests for two and a half hours, it's over.
