There is zero evidence of any new license with the \"new owners.\" In fact, there isn't even any proof that there was ever a new owner. This all points to the fact that he is just using leaked files from various game forums to take advantage of the fact that there hasn't been an official server for this game in over a decade. This is scummy, and I’m sure all of this is strictly against Steam’s Terms of Service regarding what is allowed on the platform.\nThis game here on steam should be reported for that.","html":"

Beware: This Is a Private Server that claims to be an official server

Which is illigal to do.

Let me explain,

- The game has no company running it; there is a single guy who "runs" it, with the game name as their "business" name. No serious company would call their business the game name.
\n- The game launched with microtransactions consisting of 5, 10, 15, 20, 35, 50, and 100 USD packs, plus a 500 USD pack. No legitimate company would launch an MMORPG with a "500 USD pack" before the game is even out. This is very obvious.
\n- They mark the transactions you can buy as "donations." On their page, it says, "View my donation history." This is so they can claim that the transactions aren't "purchased," but everything you "buy" is just a donation and not an actual purchase, despite their attempt to hide it as such.
\n- They also explicitly wrote something that is extremely common for private servers to have on their "donation" pages to incentivize donations: "Every contribution keeps the servers running and funds new content for the realm."
\n- The game does not support Steam wallet or steam purchases for transactions which is also a huge red flag.
\n- The developer has simply copy-pasted screenshots and videos from the old official game onto the Steam page. The launcher is an AI-generated image of Zu Online, and the website appears to have been designed by AI based on its layout.
\n- The Discord server for the game was publicly opened just a few days before the server itself opened. The "owner," Akii, calls himself the "Founder" on Discord, where he claims the following: "We are working under license with the new owners of the Zu/Shanda IP, and bringing forward their mission of acquiring old IPs and remastering/reviving them." This simply is not true. There is zero evidence of any new license with the "new owners." In fact, there isn't even any proof that there was ever a new owner. This all points to the fact that he is just using leaked files from various game forums to take advantage of the fact that there hasn't been an official server for this game in over a decade. This is scummy, and I’m sure all of this is strictly against Steam’s Terms of Service regarding what is allowed on the platform.

This game here on steam should be reported for that.

⚔️ **A FAIR RESPONSE TO THE “PRIVATE SERVER” CLAIMS** ⚔️

I have seen several comments accusing ZuOnline of being an illegal private server and claiming that the developers are pretending to be official. Before spreading accusations like that, I think people should take a step back, look at the actual information available, and separate facts from personal assumptions.

First of all, calling something a “private server” does not automatically prove that it is illegal. The important question is whether the developers have the necessary rights, permissions, or licensing arrangements. Unless someone has access to the actual agreements and legal documentation, claiming that the project is definitely illegal is simply speculation.

The Steam page lists **ZuOnline Inc.** as the developer and publisher. The game is also listed as **Free to Play**, with online multiplayer, PvP, co-op, and in-app purchases. These are publicly visible Steam details, not something invented by random players in Discord. Steam also has its own review and publishing procedures. Of course, being available on Steam does not automatically prove that every legal question has been resolved, but it does mean that people should not present their personal suspicions as confirmed facts. 🔎

The argument about the donation system is also not as conclusive as some people make it sound. Many online games use terms such as “support,” “contribution,” or “donation” for optional purchases. The wording alone does not prove fraud or illegality. What matters is how the system actually works, what is being offered, how payments are processed, and whether the developer is complying with applicable laws and platform rules.

The same applies to the argument about expensive packages. A high-priced optional package may be something that a player dislikes, but disliking a monetization model is not the same as proving that the entire game is illegal. Players can criticize prices, progression, or the value of purchases without making unsupported legal accusations.

As for Steam Wallet support, the absence of Steam Wallet payments may be inconvenient for some players, but it is not automatically proof that a game is illegitimate. Payment methods, external account systems, and monetization structures can differ between games. If someone has a specific concern about payment security, the sensible thing to do is ask the developers for clarification rather than immediately declare the game illegal. 💬

Using old screenshots, videos, art, or recognizable elements from a classic game also requires context. A revival, remaster, restoration project, or community-supported continuation may naturally use material connected to the original game. Whether that use is authorized depends on the rights and permissions involved. Looking at a screenshot and saying “this must be stolen” is not evidence; it is only an assumption.

The claim that the website or launcher looks AI-generated is even weaker. The visual style of a website or launcher has absolutely nothing to do with whether a project has legal permission to operate. A design can be made with AI, templates, freelancers, or traditional tools. None of those things proves that a server is illegal. 🤷‍♂️

The Discord server opening shortly before launch is also not proof of wrongdoing. Communities open at different times for many reasons: development schedules, moderation, testing, marketing, or simply because the developers were focused on building the game instead of running a large community months in advance.

Most importantly, the accusation that Akii is using leaked files is a serious claim. If someone has real evidence of leaked files, copyright infringement, or a false licensing statement, they should present that evidence clearly and report it through the appropriate channels. But saying “there is zero evidence” while also admitting that you do not have access to private agreements is contradictory. Private licensing arrangements are not necessarily published publicly for every random Steam user to inspect.

People should also remember that the original Zu Online has been gone for many years. A lot of former players have been waiting for a chance to return to the world they enjoyed when they were younger. Seeing a familiar game come back does not mean everyone has to trust it blindly—but it also does not justify attacking the project with unproven accusations before giving it a fair chance.

If you do not like the monetization, explain why.
\nIf you dislike the payment method, ask questions.
\nIf you are concerned about licensing, request clarification.
\nIf you find actual evidence of wrongdoing, report it properly.

That is much more reasonable than declaring the game illegal based on assumptions, screenshots, wording, or personal dislike. 🫶

I am not saying that every concern should be ignored. Players should always be careful, read the rules, understand purchases, and make their own decisions. But there is a huge difference between saying:

“Here are the facts, and here is something that needs clarification.”

…and saying:

“This is definitely illegal, the developer is lying, and the whole project is based on leaked files.”

The first is responsible criticism. The second requires serious proof.

For me, ZuOnline is about returning to a world that many of us remember, meeting old friends, creating new memories, and seeing whether this revival can build a healthy community. I will judge the game through its actual gameplay, communication, updates, stability, progression, and treatment of its players—not through dramatic accusations made without verified evidence.

Everyone is free to be skeptical. Everyone is free to dislike the game. Everyone is free to ask difficult questions.

But let’s keep the discussion fair, respectful, and based on evidence. ⚔️
