Not many games are based on the history of typeface but Type:Rider provides a fun and well designed puzzle-platformer experience around fonts. Original and informative, Type:Rider could use a more user-friendly format for its text sections but the experience is fun and well worthy of the effort and investment.
If you ever wanted to learn about your favorite fonts, Type:Rider gives you more information than you needed to know. While an uneven platformer that struggles with you from beginning to end, it's a serviceable romp for those that want a slightly relaxing game to play in these summer months.
Overall, Type:Rider was an enjoyable experience and I walked away having learned a bit about fonts and typography in general. As mentioned above, I only sunk about 3 hours into this one as it can be completed in a rather short span of time. There are some additional trophies that you can unlock by doing special tasks throughout the game, but I managed...
Overall, Type:Rider is like playing through a work of art with good music, excellent visuals, and an interesting and unique concept, but not without some flaws. It's still a good deal at $2.99 and might be worth a look.
The platforming is serviceable, but it doesn't really stand out. The side-scrolling perspective is a prop, used to give the journey more of a game-like feel. As an experience, it did the trick somewhat convincingly, but don't expect anything majorly engaging during your playthrough.
