Based on the best-selling board game and set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, Space Hulk is a 3D digital turn based strategy game that recreates the classic claustrophobic board game experience for single player and multiplayer cross-platform play between PC, Mac and on iOS. Space Hulk is set in the isolated corridors and tomb-like chambers of an ancient vessel lost in the graveyard of space. Players lead a small army of fearless Space Marine Terminators to battle in a ferocious fight for survival against hordes of predatory alien Genestealers.
Space Hulk Classics is a game I have installed a lot of times because it nails that tense, strategy-action mix and the tabletop game perfectly. It captures the tabletop feel using sound effects and low lighting to keep you on edge every single turn and never knowing what's coming. While it’s missing some modern touch-ups and has some annoying accessibility...
Modern board game design greatly de-emphasises the importance of dice rolls in favour of systems that are more predictable and strategic, and I've got to say that I much prefer this brave new world of strategy over luck that we have in our board games now.
Space Hulk is presented as a videogame version of the board game that carries the same name, which is both a blessing and a curse. If its campaign mode can offer a long experience and the Wii U's GamePad is adequately used to interact with the game, its shallow gameplay does not captivate those looking for a good strategy game.
