Zen Studios’ modern homage to classic first-person dungeon-crawlers takes you to the land of Operencia, an unconventional fantasy world inspired by a faraway land referenced in countless Central European folktales. An old-school turn-based battle system combines with inspiration from unexplored mythology to offer an RPG experience that feels unique yet also familiar.
A decent dungeon crawl of light to moderate length which is fun overall and may have replay value, but lacking in consistency.
Overall Operencia: The Stolen Sun is a good introduction if you've never played a dungeon crawler type RPG before. It has a few rough edges and a tutorial that had me wishing it was over sooner. But this is balanced by some really great world lore, tons of great voice acting and great level design.
Operencia: The Stolen Sun keeps on Nintendo Switch everything that worked fine in the previous release and is a surprisingly well-crafted port.
The ability to strafe adds a touch of the modern videogame, one that gels nicely with the somewhat traditional turn-based combat.
To do today: get up, brush teeth, follow strange dream about a deer and head off to the cursed castle to see what happens. Sounds like a plan, so what could possibly go wrong? Well, we all know the answer to that question, don't we? In Operencia, you take off on a journey of exploration, adventure, and heroic deeds—not to mention monsters and mayhem....
