You're made to lose, without much recourse, first couple of enemies have 70 health, you have 20, you only do 2 damage per attack, aka a classic Baron Sengai game.
I do want to point out, that Castaway of the Ardusta Sea (despite releasing 1 year earlier) is basically this game but with Live 2d images, and the combat is about as jank, but you at least...
