Reception

Exoprimal keeps its cards close, saving some of its best moments for later.

Capcom is trying to have its cake and eat it, too, with Exoprimal by using its story to lure more general fans while hoping the loop keeps hardcore multiplayer fans for the long haul. I’m not sure that will work; I have little motivation to return now that I’ve seen credits. But I had a fun time while it lasted. Exoprimal’s creative subversion of expectations...

Exoprimal is fun in short doses, and there's absolutely a foundation to build on here. Like many live service games, this could be something very special in a few months.

Surprisingly effective it may be at crafting a simple-but-enticing loop of gameplay, Exoprimal's shallow variety and unclear methods of progression land Capcom's latest in a middle-ground of being both entertaining and heavily flawed.

Exoprimal’s biggest strength is that it’s easy to get friends into, and you’re basically guaranteed to have a decent time whether you win or lose.
