Belmont's Curse is a beautiful and fun Metroidvania that has a lot to offer, but in the genre it helped create, today it follows in the footsteps of others more than it leaves new ones of its own.
Belmont’s Curse brings Castlevania back to its Metroidvania roots, with satisfying exploration, a versatile whip and abilities that make revisiting old areas worthwhile. Clumsy controls, uneven difficulty and an underdeveloped lead character hold it back, but the fundamentals are strong enough to make this a welcome return.
In an era with so many new releases and so many excellent Metroidvania games, the fact that we spent so many hours on *Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse*, trying to clear every room and uncover every secret, speaks volumes about its quality.
