For those who are wondering about the game only being in Japanese, the only Japanese text is in the main menu. Once you have gotten into the game all the text is in english.
Also, if you aren't able to understand English, the text is pretty sparse and is relegated to the return-to-base menu, so it doesnt really influence the moment-to-moment exploration....
