Reception

There are not many games I can play on my current hardware, but I'm glad this is one of them. Great atmosphere and fun gameplay.

It's so strange for a 1994 shooter because it does so many things that you'd only see in FPS games far, far later, but still constrained by it being made with 1994 technology. I really dread some of the more criptic or ball-busting levels of this game, namely the final two and CSFSC, which just give you so few save terminals to make you spend more time...

So far so good, runs at high resolutions and framerates without any instability, installing plugins (mods) is a breeze.

Dogshit. Not because it's bad across the board, but because the level design some of the worst ever made. Like, objectively, these are really bad levels that are not fun to play, only a select handful I'd say are decent. Everything else is good, but in a game where most of what you can do is defined by what the level has, it's a pretty damn awful experience....

I haven't played much of it, admittedly, but there's just something about Marathon. It's mysterious in a way that 9-year-old me found Halo mysterious, and the art is phenomenal, down to the fonts they used. Play in widescreen though, nobody deserves to play in the original 4:3 with the original HUD in 2026.
