Avenging Spirit is a lesser-known '90s arcade game with a unique "possession" angle that helps distinguish it from the excess of retro platformers available on the Switch. It's worth a playthrough, especially if you're unfamiliar with its charms.

Avenging Spirit, known in Japan as Phantasm, is a 1991 2-player platform arcade game developed by C.P. Brain and published by Jaleco. Players attack (or possess) enemies, collect power-ups, and defeat bosses to advance. Players can possess one of four characters with unique abilities at the start of the game, but the library of enemies expands and changes with each level.

For preservation purposes, as well as discoverability ones, this re-release of Avenging Spirit is incredibly valuable. Given that the general gaming audience probably haven’t even heard of it in the first place, credits are due to Ratalaika Games for doing the work that they’ve been doing with these. Avenging Spirit is easily my favorite among these...
Avenging Spirit is a fun arcade game that has a unique mechanic that lets you possess a variety of characters and won't eat all of your coins in the process! It's incredibly short but was an enjoyable experience.
The original arcade version of Avenging Spirit is more of a wacky curiosity than a good game but it still makes for some fun times.
Avenging Spirit really is a cool title, but this time maybe it would have worked better as a part of a collection or if it had some significant addition to justify the release. The fact it's very easy and there isn't anything to justify a new playthrough [after beating it] means it'll just be left aside quickly.
